Mental Health Awareness-The Children’s Center

I’m wrapping up my interviews for the Mental Health Awareness month of May. I had the wonderful opportunity of touring the Children’s Center and learning about what a great resource that offers specialized outpatient mental health counseling and psychiatric services for children and adolescents. They also offer services for the uninsured and underinsured. Hear about a great fundraiser luncheon with author Patrick Kennedy as the special keynote speaker on June 17th at the Heathman Lodge in Vancouver, WA. I hope one of my interviews this month has helped educate, break the stigma and start the dialogue about mental health. You are not alone. There are resources and help for you. Let’s be a community that cares and supports all.

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day! I’ll never forget a music class my children took once where they learned a Native American chant. The main lyrics were-

The Earth is our mother we must take care of her

The sky is our father

The trees our our brothers

The rivers are our sisters

~Oi Polloi

Please recycle something today. Take a walk. Breathe the air. Put your feet in the wet grass. Smell a flower. Watch a bee.
Be grateful and kind to our beautiful planet.

5th Grade Luncheon at Prune Hill Elementary

Last week I had to wonderful opportunity to attend the 5th grade luncheon at Prune Hill Elementary. These students got to attend a Portland Youth Philharmonic concert and then come back to their school for a formal, white linen luncheon put on by the PTA and served by their parents. Weeks leading up to this luncheon these kids went over manners, etiquette and behavior in formal dining situations. What a great gift to give these young people to go out in the world with. Hoping to inspire other elementary schools to do the same. Check it out!
