Happy New Year!

Several people ask me how Just a Girl in Camas came to be.
Here’s my story…
My parents grew up in this town. One from a family of owning businesses and entrepreneurial work while one from a dairy farm. Even though I grew up in Vancouver, WA I remember driving to Camas for holidays and family visits. At my young age it seemed very rural and I would have never envisioned myself residing here one day with my family.
And so it was, during the summer, on a drive to Kah-Nee-Ta for the weekend when I was discussing what direction my life was going and what the next chapter would be for me. It was on that road trip when I realized what I really wanted to do was something for my community, something that nourished my creative side and allowed me to use my public speaking skills. By interviewing local people and businesses I am hoping to create a close knit and caring community where we are all supporting each other on this journey.
I have met so many people that have enlightened me along the way and I have enjoyed hearing and sharing their stories. I have learned about the adventure and risk of starting a new business. I have learned about love and sacrifice for something someone is passionate about. I have learned to push myself out of my comfort zone. I have learned how to retake a video several times, bring out the personality of people and of our community, the art of editing video and so much more.
And now here I am! We have been here 11 years and live in an old, yellow farmhouse that used to be surrounded by prune trees. It has no insulation, single pane window, all kinds of creaks and squeaks and we couldn’t love it any more. We have two children that attend both elementary and middle school. We shop local when we can, love the natural beauty that surrounds us and I am more proud than ever to be a resident and part of the Camas community.
So, I hope from my interviews you can get a feel for this great town and learn about our community. I’m looking forward to continually sharing interviews about our local people, stories and businesses. Please be sure to subscribe with your email so you can make sure to catch all of my interviews.
